Adelard is a small but influential safety and dependability consultancy working in defence, finance, nuclear, air traffic control and rail sectors and in critical infrastructure protection. We work in safety and security analysis, in software integrity, and as Independent Safety Auditors/Assessors; we develop safety and dependability policy and standards, and we conduct a wide range of applied research.
We are seeking someone to fill a Senior Consultant position. The main area of work will be the provision of Independent Safety Audit, safety engineering support services and policy advice to the Ministry of Defence and other clients in the defence sector. Our projects span air, land and sea and involve many aspects of defence equipment. As a Senior Consultant, you will manage some projects, act as customer point of contact and provide technical leadership to your project team. You will also be a team member on other projects, and have responsibility for producing work proposals. The position will involve travel within the UK, and in some cases to Europe and the US.
You should have at least 5 years experience in a safety engineering role, and have or meet the requirements to obtain CEng certification in a relevant area. We would expect to be able to assess you at 'Practitioner' level in accordance with IET/BCS Competence Criteria for Safety-Related Practitioners. Many of our staff have doctorates or Masters degrees in an engineering or scientific discipline.
You should be able to write well and present technical material clearly. As an ISA, you must weigh diverse opinions, provide advice that is firmly based on an understanding of policy and precedent, and when appropriate, defend that advice in a firm but non-confrontational way.
Knowledge of the defence safety management standards would be an advantage, but we would expect you to be capable of transferring skills from other domains, and training and support will be available. As the work involves classified information, you should have or be qualified to obtain security clearance and approval to work on material covered by Technical Assistance Agreements under the US International Trade in Arms Regulations.
You will be based in our London office. Salary will be in the range £35,000 to £45,000 plus benefits, depending on experience.
Details can be found here. To apply please submit a CV, and a letter of support (citing at least two referees) to Anne Taylor at this address (applications can be emailed to office@adelard.com). Closing date is December 15th 2008 and applications received after this date may not be considered.

We are looking for smart, interesting people to work in some of the following areas:

Most of our new employees often do not have a safety background — we can provide suitable training in-house for anyone with technical aptitude.
You will need to be able to write well and present technical material clearly, and as you will be working directly with clients, you will be friendly and confident and you will need to be comfortable with travelling.
Salary will be in the range £25,000 to £35,000 plus benefits, depending on experience.
